BPC-157

Also known as Body Protection Compound 157, PL 14736

Impressive in rats, close to untested in people. The US rule change in October 2026 is about who can supply it, not whether it works.

What people claim

  • Heals tendons, ligaments and muscle faster
  • Repairs the gut
  • Reduces pain after injury
  • Has no side effects

What the evidence shows

  • A 2025 systematic review found 36 relevant studies. 35 were preclinical.[1]
  • A 2026 systematic review found three human studies with 30 participants in total. All were judged poor quality, the certainty of evidence was rated very low, and the authors said it should not be used outside regulated trials.[2]
  • The only intravenous safety study covered 2 adults. It reported no problems, which cannot establish safety.[3]
  • "No side effects" comes from studies too small and too short to detect them. It is not a finding of safety.[2]

Known risks

  • No large human study has measured safety or long-term effects.[2]
  • It promotes new blood vessel growth, so reviewers flag a theoretical risk of feeding undetected tumours. This is unproven either way.[4]
  • FDA flags possible immune reactions, plus impurity and characterisation problems, for some routes.[5]
  • Banned in sport as an S0 non-approved substance.[8]

Reported side effects

Moderated user reports are not open yet, so nothing is shown here. They will be labelled as unverified personal accounts.

Legal status

A summary, not legal advice. Rules change, and sport bans are separate.

United States

Unapproved, compounding tolerated

An interim HHS policy from 28 Oct 2026 lets licensed compounding pharmacies supply it on a patient-specific prescription. It is not FDA approval, FDA's drug centre recommended against listing it, and "research use" products are not covered.

United Kingdom

Unlicensed

No MHRA-licensed medicine contains it.

Australia

Not approved

TGA says it has not evaluated these products and that importing, advertising or supplying unapproved peptides is unlawful.

European Union

Not authorised

No authorised medicine. National rules on possession and import differ.
