Collagen peptides
Also known as Hydrolysed collagen, Collagen hydrolysate
Cheap and low risk, but closer to an oral moisturiser than an anti-ageing treatment. Recent analysis supports hydration, not wrinkle reversal.

What people claim
- Rebuilds skin collagen and removes wrinkles
- Makes skin firmer
- Thickens hair and nails
What the evidence shows
- A 2026 meta-analysis of 35 randomized trials and 2,534 people found better hydration. Elasticity only improved after two outlier trials were removed, and there was no robust effect on wrinkles.[1]
- A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 trials found benefits overall, but trials without company funding showed no effect on hydration, elasticity or wrinkles.[2]
- That funding split is disputed. A published letter argues 5 of the 7 "non-funded" trials were really industry trials, which would make independent evidence even thinner.[3]
- Improvements people report themselves tend to be larger than those measured by instruments.[4]
Known risks
- Made from animal or fish sources, so check the label if you have a food allergy.
- No serious safety signal appears in the reviews above, but supplements are not pre-approved and quality varies.
- Paying for wrinkle results the better evidence does not support.[1]
