Matrixyl

Also known as Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, Pal-KTTKS, Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3

One of the better tested cosmetic peptides. Expect subtle changes to fine lines at most, and the results are not consistent.

What people claim

  • Boosts collagen and reduces wrinkles
  • Works like a needle-free cosmetic injection
  • Visibly firms skin

What the evidence shows

  • In a 12-week split-face trial, 93 women saw fewer wrinkles and fine lines on the treated side than on the control side. It was well tolerated.[1]
  • A smaller 8-week double-blind trial in 21 women found it did not beat placebo on measured wrinkle scores.[2]
  • A 2026 meta-analysis found only two topical peptide trials that qualified, with a smaller, non-significant wrinkle effect. That is too little data for a firm conclusion.[3]
  • Nothing here supports the comparison to cosmetic injections. They work differently, and no trial we found compares them directly.

Known risks

  • No serious problems were reported in the trials above.[1][2]
  • Skin irritation is possible with any active product. Patch test first.
